Webs.com Expands Free Publishing To Facebook Pages Through PageModo Acquisition

Silver Spring, MD based Webs.com (formerly Freewebs) announced their acquisition of Facebook page builder startup Pagemodo today.  Their decision to  acquire the company comes a short time after their launch of ContactMe, a lightweight CRM tool for websites.  Facebook page customization initially picket up a lot of attention from the web agency community, but has since been productized by companies like Pagemodo.

Webs.com co-founder and CEO Haroon Mokhtarzada told says that small businesses are increasingly looking for help from Facebook when they market their goods and services.


Pagemodo started in 2010 and ramped up to more than 60,000 users and 100,000+ custom Facebook pages.  An impressive 1.2 million Facebook users view a Facebook page powered by Pagemodo every month.  Pagemodo’s target audience is are small and micro-businesses which coincides with Webs.com’s focus.  The ultimate benefit to webs will be an opportunity to cross-sell their existing products to a new user base.  The founders of Pagemodo are two Danish entrepreneurs.

If you are not familiar with Webs.com, they are a self proclaimed Web 2.0 startup with more than 50 million users founded by three brothers.  The company is a Social Matchbox presenter alumni (2008) and grew to their current size and market position with $23 million in funding from Novak Biddle Venture Partners and Columbia Capital.
